2007/8/31 Life should be a holidayI´m gonna leave Spain tomorrow morning and it feels so sad. This must the best holiday I had so far! So many things have happened. So many unexpected things have happened I should say, some in a good way and some bad.
Of course I must grumble about the bad things... such as almost being stuck in Zurich on the first day because the flight was overbooked (bloody subload tickets). And yesterday my camera took a dive in the Atlantic Ocean at Tarifa and died. DIED. Kapooooot. Useless. I´m gonna cry if my photos are all gone!
And here´s the worse piece of news ever. You know when people say ¨never say never¨you should have just listened and never say ¨never¨? Well I was confident that I wouldn´t get an early morning duty on 1st Sept but as luck would have it.... I just checked my roster and I have airport standby at 6am! Freaking 6am!
Now the question is how am I ever gonna make it back on time??
If I´m lucky... I´ll be going straight from Spain to destination unknown.
And if I´m not.... I think we´ll have to discuss this another time.
2007/8/22 Change of plansOpen seatbelts, leave everything, come this way"NAHA, Japan - Taiwan grounded its fleet of Boeing 737-800 jetliners after a China Airlines plane exploded in a fireball Monday on the tarmac in Okinawa, and officials said a fuel leak may be to blame. All 165 passengers and crew scrambled down emergency chutes or jumped from cockpit windows — some just seconds before the blast." Wow. I think this successful evacuation is really like wow. The evacuation of all 157 passengers, including two infants, and crew of eight, took no more than 90 seconds. And check this out... no one was injured during the evacuation process. I can only imagine how this was done considering that there must be tons of stress and panic after the passengers first saw the smoke and fire from the engines. Perhaps, China Airlines do not carry passengers like the ones we do. The Taipei-Okinawa route must be carrying passengers who are born to behave in an orderly, respectful manner! "You jump first, please" Ha ha.. Like whatever. Have as much water as you want, I'm getting out of the burning plane. Without you. 2007/8/17 Crime and PassionSo I've been mad about watching CSI recently. I've always loved the TV series but have never actually watched it in sequence. I will catch an episode whenever it was aired on AXN or on Mediacorp Channel 5 and of course, would miss some episodes along the way. So when I bought the Season 6 and 7 box sets, I was literally glued to the TV screen. It's a huge difference to watch it in proper sequence because you really start to take note of the character development.
And of course, it makes a huge difference not watching CSI with my noisy sister and Ryan (the disturbances) at home.
Anyhow, I started noticing all the nitty gritty details of the show, including hot guys. Okay, make that statement singular- hot guy. No, obviously I am not talking about Gil Grissom here, he hardly qualifies. Ha ha. I'm talking about Lab Tech in A/V- Archie Johnson!!
This sounds mad, but I get very excited everytime Archie Kao makes his 10 seconds appearance in an episode as Archie Johnson. When I'm watching CSI at home, I even have to shush Ryan and my sister up so that we can focus on Archie for that 10 seconds, or sometimes less. My sister claims that Archie has no legs, because in every episode he's seated down. But we've since found evidence that he has legs and walks very well indeed.
And get this, Archie Kao was voted as one of People.com hottest bachelor in 2006. See... told you he's hot!
But let's all just forget about the part where he acted as Kai Chen, the Blue Ranger from Power Rangers back in the late 90's. Gosh... who actually watches The Power Rangers?!
2007/8/13 And so I've been busyYay! I finally have time to actually write a blog!
And this is after battling a night of unstable, eccentric internet connection.
I got back from Nagoya yesterday morning and boy, when they say that Japan is the Land of the Rising Sun, believe them. Because it is. It could not be any hotter there. With sweltering temperatures in the afternoon, I could only make it to the air-conditioned shopping malls for some retail therapy. I was dripping in perspiration by the time I walked to the mall though. Very un-Japanese to sweat and have your make-up melt! Anyway, I only bought the usual supply of instant noodles for Shaun and nothing else. Too many cutesy stuff in Japan like Disney and Hello Kitty. Stella should go there to collect Cinderalla stuff. I wanted to get her a Cinderalla face towel but Cinderella looked a bit like her ugly step-sister on it so I deceided otherwise. Honest!
Last night I went over to Petr's new apartment at Millenium with Felicia to hang out. His new place is awesome. The kitcen is nice, the living and dining room is spacious, there is a great gym and pool as well. Unfortunately, the bedrooms are tiny and the building is in the middleof nowhere and getting there is like a desert safari trip.
It was great to meet up and chat like always. I cooked chicken curry, Petr made dirty martinis, we watched Madonna's Confession on a Dancefloor world tour on Palo's fancy schmancy flat screen plasma TV and we looked through photographs. I love looking through old photographs with friends. We would laugh at ourselves and those times we spent together. Unbelievably, most of our photos together were taken when we went clubbing. That was life in Dubai back then.... clubbing every weekend!
Today was shopping day with Felicia and Shayne. Actually, I should rephrase that to- today is shopping day for Felicia and Shayne. I was merely the spectator. Shayne bought the large size Louis Vuitton Neverfull and Felicia bought a bag from Louis Vuitton and Gucci. And they both bought the same pair of shoes from Adidas.
I am exercising self discipline. I need to save money to go to Spain! Although my love for shoes is never-ending, I need to remind myself that I bought 2 pairs of shoes last month and to date I have 4 pairs of shoes and a pair of boots still sitting prettily in my wardrobe, unworn.
I did however, develop a soft spot for the LV Never Full. Apparently, it's sold out in most of Europe, Singapore and Malaysia and it seems that stocks are not gonna be coming in anymore. Stocks for the Neverfull MM is gonna be in in 10 days and I am seriously contemplating making the investment.
I covet this. (People actually stand in line outside the flagship store in Champ Elysees to get their hads on this!)
But this looks more like my budget (minus the LV brand of course). Oh, and today, I finalised my plans for my Spain trip.
Finally.
Although I have to stop all over Europe to get to and from Spain, that's what cheap, standby, subload tickets are all about!
So I'm gonna fly to Zurich on Emirates and take Swiss Air to Barcelona, then take a low cost airline from Barcelona to Malaga. And on the way back, I'm gonna fly Lufthansa from Malaga back to Barcelona, then Lufthansa from Barcelona to Munich, then Emirates from Munich back to Dubai.
2007/8/8 Running aroundAnd yes, I have been running around. After I came back from my Perth flight, I decided on impulse to catch a flight back to Singapore.
I have been compromising on the Singaporean side of my social life so I thought I'd trot home to celebrate my friend Denise's special moment in her life. A once in a lifetime celebration of l
Although I had to give up my Venice flight and take emergency leave, I didn't so much as wince when I did it. I have missed one too many special occassions and celebratory moments with my friends and family back home.
And back in Dubai, I've been busy catching up with my social life here. I seem to have so little time for everything and everyone all of a sudden.
Will put up pictures of the wedding when I get a chance to.
Oh by the way, Happy (very) Belated Birthday to Stacey and Sherwin! I should've called you guys when I was back home, but I was busy... busy running around.
