As the year comes to an end...

I decided screw New Year's resolutions.
Every year I make the same resolutions and they all prove to be quite fruitless.
For as long as I could recall, my resolutions have always been along the lines of "lose weight" and "find boyfriend".
If any of these actually do happen in the coming year, then I guess we would all have to ice-skate home because hell just froze over.
Therefore, for 2008, I resolve to NOT make any resolutions.

Instead, I think about the past year and the magical moments of 2007 to be remembered.
There are not a lot though.
For a split second, I find myself in anaphylactic shock as I realise that I haven't done very much this year.

Here is my list of "Best of 2007 Things" anyhow...

Best movie watched- Blood Diamond Photobucket
Best book read- Holy Cow: An Indian Adventure by Sarah Macdonald Photobucket

Best hotel bed- Marriot Vienna (Still the sofest pillows and duvet... albeit having no heater in the room during winter)

Best layover- Male-Colombo in June

Best flight- EK 404/ 405 (Singapore-Melbourne) Great crew, few passengers and a rat on board. What's not to like?

Best clubbing experience- Pacha in Barcelona. Nothing comes close...Photobucket

Best holiday- Spain in summer. Oh hang on... that's my only holiday this year!  Photobucket

Best reunion- With Jeanne in Malaga. Photobucket Although meeting May, Kathy, Nadia and Wenling again this month is slowly climbing the charts.

Best TV drama series- Grey's Anatomy Photobucket

Best time waster- Photobucket Come on... everyone has gotta agree with me.

"Best" accident- Dropping my camera into the Atlantic Ocean in Tarifa

"Best" letter received- My warning letter for being absent from duty

Oh dear, this is getting slightly lame and I've run out of categories...
Going to shop around Ikea now.
Perhaps I'll continue this list when I return. (ie. don't expect an update because you know I won't)

The thought of spending yet another NYE in bed sleeping is killing me.
But what to do... Casablanca here I come.

This is why I am always so busy!

In a blinking of an eye, Christmas came and went.
I was home on Christmas Eve physically but mentally I was in lala land. Finally this crossing-too-many-timezones and waking-up-in-somewhere-different-everyday part of my job has gotten to me. I made it to church on Christmas Eve but concussed during the pageant so I hopped on a cab back to the hotel. At exactly midnight.

Christmas used to mean so much more.
We caroled in church and prayed. We squeezed past crowds in town seeking the perfect dress to wear to church. We turkeyed and christmas puddinged. And there was always some sort of family holiday and gift shopping before Christmas.

Anyhow, my Christmas Day was slightly more exciting. I celebrated most of the day in the air, flying to Melbourne. We nearly had to stay in Singapore another day because there was a RAT on board. I kid you not. A huge not-as-cute-as-Ratatouille rodent! Unfortunately, the inbound crew caught it so we had to go to Melbourne after the pest busters came onboard to offload the monster in Singapore Disappointed. It did made the day a little more exciting though.

T'was yet another lonely Christmas for me.
I'm starting to get used to this.
Which is bad.

I'm finally back in Dubai and I'm so glad to be back.
Right now I just want to be in one place.
I want to wake up to familiar surroundings.

So far yet so near

I got back from Singapore this morning. 8 days of annual leave seemed to go by so quickly.
I had plenty of fun though squeezing through the crowds at Orchard Road, having a reunion with my mates from poly, shopping and buying more clothes although I really shouldn't and checking out the Christmas light up.
Of course, Lil Miss Parteee had to go party, so it was off to St. James Powerhouse on Friday night and another mad drinking session at Augy's house party last nite before I left for the airport!
And tonight I'm flying back to Singapore.
This is exciting.
I make the Middle East seem so near when it really is a 7-hour flight away.

What I am not excited about is my roster next month. Casablanca on New Year's Day, Glasgow, Birmingham and another Birmingham, Tunisia and some 4 or 5 disgusting turnarounds!

Dammit.... this is what happens when you forget to bid.
My fellow Singaporeans.... see you tomoro!!

African Adventures

After flying to Entebbe for the third time in 3 consecutive months, I finally ventured out of the capital Kampala to the source of the River Nile!

Okay, off to Vienna tomorrow then back home on my annual leave.
I'm too tired to write anything more.
I just spent the last 2 days off but I've been busy listing myself on very full (passengers spilling out of the aircraft) flights and  decided it would be wise to make the 2 hour journey to Abu Dhabi then catch a flight back to Singapore. And of course I've been making phone calls to money changers in Dubai who do not seem to ever have Singapore Dollars for me to change. Oh, yes... and of course I've been extremely busy shopping and damaging my wallet and socialising. i finally made it to Buddha Bar the other day!

Thank God It's Friday

Literally.

I dinner-ed at TGIF last Friday. Not sure whether to call it a dinner because by the time we arrived, it was midnite.
So technically, t'was not a Friday anymore.

I've been to Dusseldorf countless times but it's so refreshing to trudge through the city streets everytime I'm there.
I had so much fun eating and shopping. Damage has been done to my wallet and my waist.
But what to do? All the German food looked so good. I had a sugary cinammon roll, a cherry strudel and a fried potato stuffed with ham, cheese and corn thingy that tasted so good.
And what could I have done in a country that makes Birkenstocks? The sales assistant told me that the Madrid pair in the colour pool which I have chosen was gonna be hot next season. I had to buy it. I'll be wearing next season's hottest birkies, imagine that! I know, I had just popped into Zara the day before I left for Dusseldorf and exited with a pair of shoes. But a woman can never have too many shoes right? Moreover, who's counting?

P/s: Apologies to Mister "mid-life-crisis" Wong but I must be really blind cos I couldn't find a single bottle of Absynth anywhere in supermarkets or at the airport duty free. I guess there won't be a Christmas present for you. I'll try again when I go to Vienna next month before I come back to Singapore on leave. But hey, no promises man... no promises.
