Back from the city I
So what's been happening lately? It seems that so much is going around me, but I haven't stayed at a single place long enough to know what's going on. At the same time, I've been away so often and so long, I feel like I've been missing a lot as well.
Actually, I do know what's been happening lately. It's the maiden flight of Singapore Airlines A380 into Sydney yesterday. How could I not know that? I was in Singapore when the aircraft arrived sometime last week, and I was in Sydney yesterday when the aircraft flew in. I was lying in bed in the Hilton, channel surfing and the live broadcast of the flight arriving into Kingford Smith was on Channel 9, Channel 7, ABC and every other TV station. And Singapore Airlines must have spent thousands plastering themselves all over the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday. It was literally ALL OVER. How could I miss it? But the point is, is it really that BIG a deal? For someone who's part if the aviation industry, I can honestly say that I don't care.
As usual, My Sydney-Christchurch trip was a super packed one. I met Christine for lunch and went over to Allan and Sylvia's house in Sydney. I also did some shopping and visited the Sydney Aquarium in Darling Harbour. I'll post pictures soon, but lemme warn you that the pictures are only for serious marine life lovers. I also realised that taking photos in an aquarium is very challenging, so pardon the lousy pics! And in Christchurch, I had a lovely fish and chips dinner follwed by a lager, 4 vodka and tonics, 1 black sambuca and 1 B52. What a way to end an evening on a cold and windy 5 degree night in New Zealand. The next day I took a bus to the Gondola and went up the beautiful mountain of Christchurch. Again, will post photos when I get my brain back.
14 hour long flights are not funny. After my 14 hour 4 mins flight back to Dubai, I slept for a good 9 hours today and guess what? I'm still sleepy! Crossing nearly 9 time zones, I can seriously say that my body is screaming for help now that it's jet lagged.
My job makes me old and dumb.
I'm off to do my laundry now.
Toodles.
P/s: It's good to finally have my camera back in working order!!!!

This is exactly what is lacking in my life right now.
Like strangers, we seem to keep passing each other by, in every corner of the world.
Fate without destiny?
I wouldn't read too much into it though.
So, I have been disappearing to Singapore pretty often recently.
Don't you find that unusual?
Honestly, I'm very surprised at myself (and the amount of $$$$$$$$ I've spent on buying tickets!!) to fly to and from home.
Back in Dubai, things aren't quite looking up. My house is a mess, there's cabinets to clean and pack, a pile of laundry to be washed and ironing to be done. Yet, I tell myself that all this can be done when I come back from Sydney and Christchurch in 6 days. Today, I shall unleash myself from being a 'domestic goddess' a.k.a. housewife-in-the-making.
When did I learn to procrastinate?
I worry myself sometimes.
By the way, can you smell it in the air?
*gasps*
Sleighbells will be ringing soon! 2007/10/14 The Last King of ScotlandDid anyone catch the movie The Last King of Scotland starring oscar winning Forest Whitaker?
I watched the movie some time ago and it wasn't one of my favourite movies for sure. Too brutal, violent and political for my liking.
I did however learn a lot about the African country Uganda and its political instability and dangers.
I totally fogot having watched that movie until I was in Uganda some time last week.
And thankfully, it was nothing like how it was being protrayed in the movie. The movie was afterall set in the 1970's.
Admittedly, I slept through most of the bumpy bus journey which took us from the airport in Entebbe to our hotel in Kampala. There wasn't much to see anyway apart from the green landscapes, the mountains framing the backdrop and lakes. The rest of it looked much like Accra with crowded markets and dirt streets. I did notice several United Nationa shelters along the way as well and children in torn clothes playing in the humble playgrounds, staring at us in the bus as we passed. I felt a little bad. There I was dozing off in the bus with my Ipod plugged into my ears and these children may have never even owned a radio.
The rest of Kampala is not worth mentioning. I went to the market and got myself a small figurine of an angel carved out of soapstone, headed back to the hotel, ordered room service and slept a lot. Can't do much in 24hours sometimes...
Anyhow, here are some photos taken with my trusty Nokia. I miss having a real camera!
2007/10/1 Good Monday Morning!!Hope everyone had a great weekend. Otherwise, too bad.
Your work week starts today.
I got home about an hour an a half ago from my waste-of-time-and-make-up 2 hour airport standby from 1am to 3am, and I spent the last hour tossing and turning in bed like a satay on the grill.
It's 5am now and I can't sleep. Gonna eat and watch TV instead.
My work for the day is over anyway and I have the rest of the day to sleep in.
Oh by the way, HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY!!
I miss primary school days...
